Luxembourg’s public research community is characterised by a spirit of agility and cooperation. Its most recent initiative aimed at facilitating the development of partnerships and promoting technology transfer is the launch of a digital platform for open innovation.

Creating bridges between research and industry is high on the agenda of Luxembourg’s public research institutes.

“Our culture of partnership and Knowledge and Technology Transfer (KTT) at University of Luxembourg is many-faceted: chairs, private-public-partnerships, intellectual property licensing, spin-off creations, etc.,” says Christophe Haunold, Head of Partnership, Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office at the University of Luxembourg. “We are developing our ecosystem through capacity building in the field of KTT, hiring skilled professionals and sharing the best international practices.”

The objective of the new, collaborative open innovation platform is to offer a free tool that can be used to find and accelerate research, funding and innovation opportunities with national and global partners.

Open innovation community

The platform has been set up by Research Luxembourg, which brings together Luxembourg’s main public research players and related governmental and support bodies.

Companies, startups, and entrepreneurs will be able to tap into all the technologies being developed in Luxembourg’s public research institutions. In addition, the platform will stimulate calls from industry to public institutes, to create new business opportunities and bring together public and private partners with a common interest.

The aim is to get attention from companies which are out of our network, create new business contacts, and ultimately initiate various partnerships.” Fabian Belin, Partnership Development & IP Valorisation at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST)

The platform is powered by Innoget, a global open innovation network for innovative companies, scientists, startups and experts.

It offers a simple and secure opportunity to make trustworthy contacts, initiate projects and share knowledge about technologies as well as in disciplines like biosciences, chemistry, engineering and IT – with guaranteed protection of intellectual property and confidentiality.

Reaching further with open innovation

The platform offers Luxembourg research centres the opportunity to reach new potential cooperation partners.

“One of the expected outcomes of showcasing our key assets online is the increase of licensing collaborations of course, but not only. Most important for us is to use available digital technology promotion tools to create impact to promote our skills and expertise,” says Jérémie Langlet, in charge of the Business Development Office of the Luxembourg Institute of Health.
