According to credit rating agency Moody’s, Luxembourg’s solid economic structure has enabled the country to weather the economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. The country still has a robust financial situation, a low level of debt, a forward-looking economic policy and a stable political environment.
Moody’s has recently introduced environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects in its assessment methodology, and it is in this context that Luxembourg continues to benefit from the AAA rating, the highest credit rating possible. The agency concludes that Luxembourg has a low exposure to environmental and social risks, high governance performance and a very high capacity to respond to shocks.
Luxembourg receives the highest ranking possible for governance thanks to its high degree of transparency and its balanced fiscal policy. Moody’s also points out that Luxembourg stands out for its particularly high performance rating for safety and widespread access to quality healthcare.
